Peter Tessier: The curious case of Nik Ehlers Jets host Coyotes but what's going on with Ehlers and how can he get going on the score sheet?

Really?

Now, why would I write about Kucherov?

The reason Ehlers and Laine are off to such a slow start is they have absolutely no chemistry with their center Little and would benefit with having Roslovic between them. Maurice stubbornly refuses to recognize this and don't be fooled by Little's 2 goals recently this trio just doesn't work. Little would be great with Perreault and Lemieux as they could feed him the puck as he has a great shot. Leave Myers alone. He could be a top 4 d-man on most teams. It time too bring up Poolman as he is a much better player than Morrow and Kulikov who both should be traded to make room for Niku as well.

Little and Ehlers would be okay together. It's Laine and his lack of speed that slows them down.

While I’m here, can we talk about the fact that Chevy has likely managed to screw himself over by giving lowball, bridge deals to BOTH of his top 2 dmen?
All we need now is a massive Myers extension, and the Jets will hit the hat trick of not knowing how the f**k to evaluate defencemen

Trouba doesn’t want to be here. Morrissey gambled on himself and will get the extension he wants. Myers will sign for a bargain.

Myers 1 goal, 1 assist. On the ice in the crucial last minute to protect the lead. What a player!!!

You can’t force a guy to sign a long term contract. Chevy did everything he can to sign both long term, if a player won’t sign they won’t sign.

Myers was horrible!! I dont want to hear morrow being blamed for Myers, it’s usually Myers fault. Morrow may actually be better.
He had two great chances and scored on one, good for him, it was also a great play by Trouba who had 3 points.
I counted 20 bad plays/pinches/reads/turn overs by Myers
I hope Myers buys broisent dinner tonight, he owes him

I don’t think Little is shoot first but I agree with your point

My other thoughts;
-Shief and wheeler were bad, seriously not good
-Laine still can’t play in his end, he still struggles to take a pass in our end, he still struggles to make the right play to get the puck out of our end, and I still haven’t seen nearly the improvement in these areas we should have by now
- Lemieux and that whole line looked good
- Myers is a mistake waiting to happen in our end, if you dont see it, I can’t help you
-Morrisey was wise to bet on himself with a bridge
-that Keller kid can play, and he can shoot!!
-still think the lines need to be changed
-I no longer have serious worries about our back up goalie.

LOL......blaming Ehlers problems on Myers. Peter , you've hit a new low of credibility. Sorry but add me to the list of posters who will no longer read your articles. Myers does a great job passing out of the zone. Morrow, on the other hand, is about 25% on that front if not lower.

As far as the game, the one major takeaway is that the Jets defense has really been activated with these five-man units. I believe the defense had at least 7 points. Strangely , BUff wasn't one of them tonight. The other takeaway is the huge success the power play has had this season. Its probably now top 3 in the league. The new alignment is working quite well . Morrissey on the point on the first unit and Myers and Buff on the second. PK also still red hot. I believe its 18/20 recently.

Another win and ten straight at home against the former Jets. Arizona will get much better once Galchenyuk and Chychryn are back from injuries. They are finally showing some life. Another good example of the speed and quick transition game needed in the new NHL.

Yup ehlers and that 6M is garbage. Should probably just trade him to my Devs for a 1st. Guy is in a puck-posession class with Kane/Marner/Gudreau but eh, lets worry about his tiny sample size thus far. The kid is a stud and I would not fear his 0.5 ppg..... His linemates are Little and Laine who are suspect playmakers on a good day.

Trouba hates winnipeg and has been a cancer for a long time. Take your career high 33 points and kick rocks to the first team dumb enough to give you 7M+. Morrissey looks great, and has since he entered the league (Enstrom with some offense), and Meyers will probably remain similar to his current 5.5M, which is fair for a #4 D in the current cap era. My concern is, and has always been Laine. He is simply a pp specialist with a TON to work on before being a competent 5v5 player. I feel anyone asking north of 8M better be a guy you can trust in all situations. In my opinion, he has alot to work on.

Just checked on Stimsons website. Myers is second best on the team in zone exits and passing, and is 98th percentile in DZSa60 since he joined the Jets. Overall on the Jets only Trouba has better overall passing stats (although certainly not this year). Morrow is dead last by a mile. When I said 25% as good I was actually pretty close.

Ehlers problems are not remotely the fault of Tyler Myers.

I wonder how Ehlers would do as a left Defender.

Now I know what you all are thinking...he's never played D...but he has on several PP's and his speed is quite evident when Buff blows a tire.

I think adding Ehlers to the D corps would be worth a shot...and since everyone says we have so much depth at forward...I'm sure we could find someone to take his place up front.

Thoughts?

I never said they were Myers fault I looked at his role with Ehlers. I threw it out as an idea.

Good lord you take things way too seriously.

Jetsnation is right we should check Stimson's website.

Here's 15-16

Here's 16-17

Oh and here's last season....

So where is this 98th percentile you speak of? What we see is a guy who is actually going down the toilet and not on the light setting either- it's a big flush.

His play yesterday in his own zone was again spotty at best and his rushes with the puck are throwing off the forwards who need it. But please tell me how great he is.

Low batting average here:
-Trouba is neither a “cancer” nor a Peg hater
-Trouba has a 33 point high because he has no power play time, and led all Jets dmen in points at 5 on 5 last season
-Morrissey is apparently the more offensive version of a guy with back to back 50 point seasons on his resume
-Myers is not a #4, and should see a drastic pay cut
-Laine has actually improved massively this season, and his counting stats will pick up when he’s not with Little and Ehlers
